Close to 100 people gathered in San Diego on March 6-7, 2018 for the 2018 HTRS-NASTH Research Colloquium. The meeting focus was to promote career development for early stage investigators, and facilitate collaboration in basic, clinical and translational research related to non-malignant hematology.

The Colloquium brought junior faculty and experienced researchers together to:

  • Promote "team research" and help to build a stable workforce
  • Share strategies for building a successful research career in the 21st century
  • Network with mentors and peers
  • Launch partnerships designed to advance research in non-malignant blood disorders
  • Donna DiMichele, MD, Deputy Director of the Division of Blood Diseases and Resources, provided a wealth of information to attendees about NIH funding opportunities (slide presentation)
  • Katherine High, MD, President of Spark Therapeutics gave a keynote address on managing one's career progression through multiple phases
  • Panels on Basic, Clinical, and Translational Science addressed career advice and current research
  • Investigators at all career stages networked and shared information
